FAQ
How do I order a knife?
First off: I do not accept orders. I do consider requests.
Go to the Contact page, fill out the form. After receiving your request, I'll write your name and request details on the whiteboard in my workshop. When I get to your name, and I have the materials, skills and tools to complete it to my satisfaction, I will attempt to complete your request.
Do you use stainless steel?
No. I use a variety of high-carbon tools steels as well as damascus steel.
How do I take care of the knife I bought from you?
Keep it clean, keep it oiled, keep it in your pocket, use it!
Cleaning: wipe dirty blades with a soapy cloth, then wipe dry.
Blow out the interior of the knife with compressed air if available, else clean the inside with a small brush or a Q-Tip
Oiling: Use mineral oil, gun oil or a lanolin based protective such as FluidFilm after cleaning.
The blade is darkening / is showing strange colours
Ah, the joys of carbon steel! This is called patination, your knife is developing a patina. This is normal and to be expected.
Rust! Aaargh!
While darkening and discolouration of the steel parts is normal, rust is not. To prevent rust, keep the knife well oiled.
Should the blade/s show signs of rust: Remove any loose rust with an oiled piece of coarse cloth such as denim or heavy cotton. If this does not help: lightly sand the blade using 1200 grit or finer sand paper.
